Hugh McClelland
Hugh McClelland is a Biopsychology Honours Student in the lab.
Biography
I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario where I attended Westdale Secondary School and completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. Wanting to explore more of Canada, I came to Mount Allison University in 2021 with a keen interest in psychology and biology. I love to travel, and hope to be able to study and work in many more parts of the world. In my free time, I love to play chess, hike, and practice Judo.
Research
I have a keen interest in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases that affect cognitive processes, memory in particular. During the summer of 2024 through the Independent Student Research Grant, I launched a population study investigating occupational exposure to glyphosate, a widespread herbicide within Canada, and cognitive ability among pesticide applicators. Under the co-supervision of Dr. Mitchell LaPointe and Dr. Tyson MacCormack, we strived to identify possible trends between estimated lifetime occupational exposure and performance in specific cognitive domains. This study is still ongoing, and will be incorporated into my Honours Thesis. Please see the "Research" tab for more information.
